The economy of Hefei, the capital city and economic center of Anhui province in the eastern part of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), has been growing at an average annual rate of 13.5% since 2000. Rapid economic growth, industrialization, and urbanization have led to urban environmental pollution and degradation.
During project appraisal, the Hebei South Power Grid (HSPG) serving the southern part of the Hebei province in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), had insufficient peaking capacity due to an unbalanced generation mix and inadequate transmission interconnections with neighboring provinces.
Inadequate road connectivity had hampered the economic growth of rural India in the years prior to this program.
